Small But Powerful – Delaware
A small state with big beginnings, Delaware is the second smallest and sixth least populous state in the nation, and in fact, it is so small the state is only divided into 3 counties, the lowest number of counties in any state in America. Still, though it’s small is size and stature, Delaware was the very first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States on December 7, 1287, making it “The First State” in the nation. Over the years, Delaware has come from humble beginnings as a farming state to growing in industry and today the state’s largest employers are found in the government, education, healthcare, and banking industries. The Department of Higher Education in Delaware strives to promote undergraduate and graduate programs that combine academics with real-world work experience in efforts to educate residents in areas that will lead to jobs within Delaware after graduation.

The National Center for Education Statistics lists just 17 degree granting private and public colleges and universities in the state of Delaware.
