Top 50 Best Universities for Artificial Intelligence in the World

Find your perfect value college

Do you want to study artificial intelligence? Most of us use Artificial Intelligence (AI) every day in our interactions with the world. Practical speech and voice recognition embedded in our phones gives us the ability to use voice commands to request things from our devices. Have you ever noticed how your voice recognition on your phone improves over time? The more a software application is used, the more it “learns” from the available data, and the more accurate the application’s responses become. This ability to self-improve is the essence of Machine Learning. Useful web searches and self-driving cars are just a few of the many ways Machine Learning and AI have permeated our lives.
Artificial Intelligence bachelor degrees have historically been master’s level degrees and offered only as a specialization or concentration of another degree. They have existed in university departments of engineering, mathematics, computer science, and computer engineering. However, many schools now have bachelor’s level programs to study artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence degrees are branching out from the traditional departments to more interdisciplinary and broader areas. The best colleges for machine learning and the best colleges for artificial intelligence are already changing the future.

University of Southern California |
The University of Southern California is a highly respected private research institution located in the heart of Los Angeles, a city that provides students access to a whole world of global business, arts, and culture to engage along with their curricula. Established in the 1870s, USC was started by high energy citizens who thought it was essential to bring a postsecondary institution to the area. Today their offerings are vast, and consistently revered internationally, for scholarship in all of their disciplines. The Viterbi Department of Engineering and Computer Science at USC is the home to the Information Sciences Institute (ISI), which was one of the founding bodies of the internet. They also offer the Institute of Creative Technologies (ICT). The University of Southern California and their Viterbi Department of Computer Science is maximizing their timely impact with programming that is in line with the current tech trends. They have a myriad of undergraduate offerings in the computer sciences like the Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science (CSCI) that offers a holistic computer science background. This versatile degree ultimately gives students the ability to increase their competitive candidacy in the job market following graduation. Along similar lines is the Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering and Computer Science, a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science (Games), and a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science and Business Administration. Graduates from the program are expected to emerge in a path of lifelong learning, where they can have an impact on their communities by use of artificial intelligence in both a traditional and non-traditional scope. How are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning related?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of computers to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. Some examples of these tasks are visual recognition, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. AI can take a physical form – like a robot – but most AI is embedded (often by bots) in services that don’t have a physical presence and are not seen. Social media like Facebook use visual recognition to identify and classify photos. AI is found in the technology used for mobile banking to make a remote deposit, the sorting of your email in the inbox and spam box, and the ‘recommendations’ suggested when we shop online.
All machine learning is AI, but not all AI is machine learning. Machine Learning is a specific subcategory of Artificial Intelligence. So a degree in machine learning is not interchangeable with AI. The fundamental difference between Machine Learning AI and traditional AI software is the use of algorithms or rules that tell a computer what to do in a situation. A machine learning major uses self-developing models to process data and makes predictions that enable machines to act without being explicitly programmed. Machine Learning is currently the favored method for building AI and is experiencing a rise in popularity and educational opportunities.

Computer science and computer engineering study artificial intelligence, design and create computer systems, networks, software, and develop computing techniques. These are dynamic fields that impact the world more every day. As businesses and industries increasingly rely on computers and AI as integrated parts of the daily business, the AI research will grow and encompass almost all sectors. The emergence of Health Informatics, a degree of information technology (IT) in the healthcare system, is a prime example of the crossroads between industry and computer science degrees.
Where Do Artificial Intelligence Majors Get Jobs?
From the best artificial intelligence schools, where will you go? It’s hard to say where your computer science degrees will take you. Since there is no specific classification for AI or Machine Learning in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, we researched the Computer and Information Research Scientists occupation. The Bureau describes the Computer and Information Research Scientists occupation as individuals that, “invent and design new approaches to computing technology and find innovative uses for existing technology. They study and solve complex problems in computing for business, medicine, science, and other fields.” The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the Computer and Information Research Scientists occupation to grow 19% between 2016 and 2026, making it one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy compared to all occupations, which are projected to increase only 7% in the same period. Those with graduate degrees can expect even higher.
